Melissa Mapstone
Hello, and welcome to our school page! I am an elementary school teacher with a Master’s in Education Administration. I value building safe and nurturing classrooms with teachers who provide hands-on activities to encourage play and social interaction. I believe children learn letters and numbers best in the context of everyday experiences, and I love to see their artwork brightening our classroom walls and hallways! The saying, “Fight Fear with Faith,” grew in meaning to me as God and I journeyed through my 2nd brain tumor diagnosis, and you’ll often see me wearing gray in recognition of brain tumor awareness. Supporting others as I have received comfort and care is important to me. I am also a photographer. I enjoy taking photos of our children around our family farm, where I live with my husband, Peter. Our children attended Playschool, and I am excited to continue to be a part of the school community as Director. I look forward to welcoming you to the Playschool family!
Schedule and Programs:
Our classes are held Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
Tuesday/Thursday: 3-year-olds
Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 4 & 5-year-olds
Monday – Friday: 5-year-olds
Gymnasium or playground occurs daily
Story Time Visit from Miss Windy from the Manlius Library Each Month
Playschool aims to foster each children’s desire to learn, to investigate, to try new things and explore their environment while promoting self-awareness.
We expose children to an educational, theme-based literature program that promotes the discovery and fun of reading.
We provide a play-based program while making systematic efforts to promote the learning of academic and social skills.
Our program promotes independence, and group and personal responsibility. Children are taught to be respectful of themselves and others, as well as the materials and playthings they interact with each day.
We provide a warm and nurturing Christian atmosphere that aims to educate the whole child; head, hands, and heart.
We have a wonderful facility and fun and educational programs
We have classrooms, activity rooms, a full size gym, and a great fenced-in playground.
Energetic, fun staff teaching your children kindergarten readiness material.
Field Trips:
In addition to the daily learning and fun activities at Playschool, we also go on lots of field trips:
Trip to the Zoo
October visit to Our Farm (pumpkin picking, petting zoo, corn maze)
Seasonal show at a theater in Syracuse
Visits to local parks
Bowling
